Sri Lanka Cricket has announced it will invest heavily in the existing club-based domestic structure, although a provincial first-class tournament is also in the works. The board has promised a grant of 11 million Sri Lankan rupees (USD $74,000 approx) for each of the 14 clubs in the first-class tournament, and has also said it will beef up facilities by providing bowling machines, mechanised rollers and other groundskeeping equipment. Ten Tier B clubs will get a grant of nine million rupees as well.We have identified our clubs as the places that we promote, sustain and develop cricket in our country, and we will invest as much as possible in this area, SLC president Thilanga Sumathipala said. For Sri Lanka to make an indelible mark on the world arena we need to focus on strengthening and developing our domestic cricket - this will provide us with a world-class pool of players to select from. Our focus is on the quality of cricket and not just the quantity. The announcement of these grants comes weeks after SLC had reinstated domestic contracts, handing out 85 of them to cricketers from a variety of clubs. This was a repudiation of the pay-model devised by 2015s SLC interim committee, who sought to better incentivise players by paying out substantial match fees for games played, instead of handing out contracts that guarantee income through the season. The present board also rejected the 2015 interim committees vision for Sri Lankas domestic cricket, having also canned the provincial tournament devised by Mahela Jayawardene. Moreover, these latest grants suggest the board does not want to move away from a club-based domestic structure, despite growing criticism of the competition. Several former players have suggested the current first-class format does not encourage high-quality cricket, and have also voiced concerns that senior cricket has not meaningfully spread beyond Basnahira (western province) and Ruhuna (southern province).SLC is expected to announce the details of a new provincial tournament over the next few weeks. However, this tournament is expected to be much shorter than the club tournament, and is likely to feature just four teams. The Premier League Tournament - for now the main first-class competition in Sri Lanka - will be unchanged from the previous seasons format. Fourteen teams will be split into two groups, before the top sides progress to a Super Eight round-robin. Vans Shoes Wholesale . "Trying to breathe," he said with a grin. LOUIS -- The New Orleans Saints looked like a team playing out the string. TROON, Scotland -- Marco Dawsons first British Open is proving to be an eventful one.The 52-year-old Senior British Open champion reached the eighth green during his first practice round at Royal Troon on Tuesday when his caddie for the week, standing about 10 feet away, was knocked to the ground by an errant drive from Vijay Singh from the seventh tee.Ive never seen anyone get hit by a ball like that, Dawson said Wednesday. It came down square on him. Not a glancing blow. He went in and out of consciousness. Threw up a couple of times because he was getting faint. We didnt know how bad it really was.The caddie, Billy Ciplinski out of the nearby golf club at Prestwick, was taken to a medical center at Royal Troon and then onto a hospital. He stayed there overnight under observation before being discharged Wednesday.Ciplinski came straight to Troon, sporting a cut the size of a golf ball on the back of his head, and told Dawson hed be OK to carry his bag for the opening round Thursday. They didnt put in any stitches, they just glued it. That was it, Dawson said. We got lucky. It was Ciplinskis wedding anniversary on Tuesday --- and he spent it with his wife, after all.dddddddddddd She works as a physicians assistant at the hospital where Ciplinski was transferred.Dawson aborted his round Tuesday after Ciplinski collapsed, and finished it off on Wednesday using 60-year-old Johnny McMillan, who works as a luggage handler at Royal Troon, as an emergency caddie. It was great, McMillan said. Im desperate to get a bag during the Open.Dawson qualified for Royal Troon by winning the Senior Open at Sunningdale last year. That was his second win on the PGA Tour Champions. Before that, the American made 512 starts and won just once -- on the second-tier Web.com Tour in 2002.Hell head into Thursday having played 18 holes at Troon, but he thinks thats enough.Thats the reason why I got a local caddie, Dawson said. The caddie I had last year at Sunningdale was local and when the conditions changed every day, he knew exactly how the course played. He told me what club to hit, gave me all the information. Its about executing the shot. ' ' '
